Defend Ireland, Fight Normalisation

England has always tried to destroy any sense of separateness in Ireland. By subordinating the Irish people as subjects to the Crown, England has through various methods tried to pacify and subvert the Irish Nation and its people. It has passed laws, murdered and committed an endless line of crimes spanning centuries in its effort to destroy the separate identity which exists in this country.

In order to facilitate its domination and rule over Ireland, England has in the past as is present had no problem bringing the ‘native’ Irish into their system by granting titles and positions of limited power, indeed there is no traitor worse the native traitor. In doing so, aided with the help of the native traitor, they have moved swiftly from the colonial state to the neo-colonial state, have moved from an overt form of imperialism to a new form of imperialism, a form of imperialism that relies on the ignorance of the people to succeed.

Alas England may say it has reached the deathly position of controlling our minds, our thoughts and actions using a more subtle form of oppression and domination, that of mass-media and with it, mass manipulation, meaningless entertainment through a whole array of nonsensical childish nonsense for the mature masses. Everywhere we turn the British influence is ripe in its appeal. Whether through the medium of modern technology or on our streets, in our shops and our homes, there is no escape as the hypocrite politicians who recognise partition try once more to reduce the historic Irish Nation to a mere province of England.

In 2013, County Derry, once of hub of resistance to the occupation of our country will be titled the UK Capital of Culture. To all who died for the cause of Irish Freedom there could be not be a greater insult. But this is all part of a carefully fostered plan to make acceptable British domination over Irish affairs.

A lesser known fact but very much on the same page is the bringing of the Olympic torch to Ireland in the run up to the 2012 Olympic games and the fact that British visas will be viable in the 26-Counties for the period of the Olympic games. On June 6th the Olympic torch will be carried through Dublin in what can only be described as a further step in the normalisation process. British rule is no longer confined to the occupied six counties but it is now encroaching once more on the 26-County State with the methods of Neo-Colonialism being favoured as opposed to the old methods of invasion and suppression by any means. The aim is very clear as Dublin will be the only City outside the so-called UK to host the torch. Organisers said “the short, symbolic visit will reflect the success of the peace process and the all island make-up of the Irish team for the London Olympic Games.”

The reality is that Ireland the Nation, which consists of 32 counties will never host the Olympics because of the suppression by the very country many Irish people and politician’s grovel at the feet of today. England has deliberately retarded and stunted the growth of Ireland over centuries, and then we are expected to be all happy when they allow the glorious Olympic torch brought through Dublin City. As we move closer to the Centenary of the Easter Rising of 1916 the British Government and pro-British elements within the 26-County State and of course Stormont are trying once more to eradicate any separateness in the psyche of the Irish people in a symbolic and subliminal way rather than overtly so that whatever sovereignty that was once enjoyed is again removed in a subtle manner without resistance from the Irish people.

In 2012 many Irish people in the 26-County State are oblivious that an armed occupation persists in six of Ulster’s nine Counties. To them it is Northern Ireland, a seperate country. The reality and republicans know it, is that it is a plastic state established through lethal force of arms and maintained as such to this day. It is an abnormal State and will never be accepted by those who stand by the sovereign All-Ireland Republic of 1916 and endorsed by the people in 1918 and ratified in 1919.

A growing awareness of this fact and the recent resurgence in traditional republicanism has seen the Neo-Colonial state go to new extremes in trying to ‘win the hearts and minds of the people’. But to those whose true and only allegiance is to Ireland it might better be described as brainwashing the most vulnerable while they are not able question events and circumstances for themselves. Over the past two years the so-called reformed RUC, the PSNI, has been ‘visiting’ Catholic schools in traditionally republican and nationalist areas. There is only one aim here and that is to make normal and acceptable over a period of time the British occupation of Ireland whilst also encouraging our youth the join the colonial police force and become active participants in the anti-Irish British system.

It is made no more evident than in the statement made by Policing board member Conall McDevitt of the SDLP; “Engagement between Catholic schools and the PSNI will play a significant role in building confidence amongst young Catholics and Nationalists and hopefully lead to significant interest from young people from all people who will join up to the PSNI.”

Pushing this agenda alongside the PSNI is the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools (CCMS). In September 2011 they sent a circular signed by Chief Executive Jim Clarke around to all principles of Catholic Maintained Schools regarding: “Building a Strategic Partnership between PSNI and Catholic Maintained Schools”. By allowing the RUC/PSNI visit Catholic/Nationalist schools often within without informing the parents of such visits the Stormont regime are taking advantage of Ireland’s youth. They are using their influence and power to try and kill any future resistance to this foreign and unjust occupation by trying to destroy in the minds of the people. But history has thought us the lesson that the separate and sovereign identity of Irelands youth, as children of the historic Irish Nation, will always shine through and Britains policy of normalisation will once again, end in failure.

The reality remains that many areas have not sold out their Irish heritage to be part of Britain’s colonial enclave in the six-counties. For such communities the level of oppression remains on par with any of the oppression we have seen since the partition of Ireland, nothing has changed. 24 hr surveillance, intimidation and harassment on a daily bases remains a reality for them communities that have not surrendered that unbreakable Irish spirit. Many unpurchased communities maintain that unbreakable spirit best defined by James Connolly when he said “The British Government has no right in Ireland, never had any right in Ireland, never can have any right in Ireland.”

The latest attempts by the British and their subjects to conquer Ireland will fail, there is an awakening within republican communities and we in Republican Sinn Féin need to make the most of it and increase support for the revolutionary Éire Nua programme. In this way all communities and traditions in Ireland can live in peace together as neighbours with common interests, no other offer exists that puts forward such an inclusive alternative to the people in all regions of our nation. But for it to become a reality we need to make ungovernable the corrupt partitionist system that binds the Irish people to imperialism, any real advancement of humanity demands such a break.

A realistic beginning is opposing by any means possible the latest attempts by the British to subvert the Irish nation as a mere province of the so-called United Kingdom. This will need communities to come together and actively oppose what is fundamentally wrong and unjust, and Britain’s prolonged occupation of our country is just that, wrong and unjust, it will never guarantee peace or prosperity, but prolonged the suffering of a long oppressed nation and its people. Republican Sinn Féin's vision, Éire Nua, offers a new way, a new beginning that can offer through its federal policies a real Socialist alternative to the anti-social system of centralised capitalism and partition that has thus far stunted the growth of the Irish Nation.
